Dozens of Texas Union Carpenters Get Free BBQ Courtesy of Local 429

What can 100 pounds of brisket and 30 pounds of locally sourced sausage get you? Dozens of well fed Texas union carpenters and their families. Central South Carpenters’ Local 429 held a drive-through BBQ for about 80 cars and served 124 plates of food. Cars lined up well before the 2 p.m. start time at the Local Union Hall / Training Center parking lot located at 1901 Susan Drive, Arlington, TX. Cooking and serving for other members in the first-come-first-served format were brothers/sister:

  • Will McFarlin, Local 429 President
  • Frank Banda, Local 429 Trustee
  • Alex Ornelas, Council Resource Manager & Local 429 Delegate
  • Joey Sims
  • Mario Vargas
  • Bill McCowan
  • Ricardo Pagan
  • Eduardo Martinez

“The outpouring of pride and gratitude was very humbling on many levels, especially to see the excitement on everyone’s face, knowing they are a part of something bigger than themselves, and that this is a family that looks out for each other,” said Local 429 Council Representative Shawn Walker.

The event is now evolving! Walker said the Local is working with local food banks and plans are already in the works for another drive-by BBQ for Local 429 members and their families.
