Bobby Vasquez Named Austin & San Antonio Training Coordinator
Long-time Texas construction professional Bobby Vasquez is now steering the ship for the Carpenters training programs in Austin and San Antonio as each program’s area coordinator. Mr. Vasquez, a member of Central South Carpenters Local 1266 and 32-year construction veteran, joined the union with experience in roofing, wood flooring, framing, trim, concrete, and masonry.
“My first taste of construction was at the age of 18 when I started roofing. I earned my stripes in the field along the way, working in most aspects of construction, specifically carpentry, until I eventually became a superintendent for a general contractor,” Vasquez said.
He is certified to teach and certify members, both in English and Spanish, in OSHA 10, 30, DSW, Millwright 16 and Fall Protection. He also teaches First Aid, CPR/AED and Bloodborne Pathogens, Safety and Interior Systems Training. He also actively recruits for the profession via presentations and training center tours to various high school and community college vocational programs.
“When I was offered the position of Area Coordinator for Austin & San Antonio, it was a no brainer. I love what I do and I’m trying my best to improve the quality of training our members receive while providing on-demand, real-time training to our contractors when they want it,” Vasquez said. “I am not bound by our schedule alone, but by the needs of our members, whenever or whatever they may be.”
The Austin and San Antonio carpenter training programs are part of the Texas Carpenters & Millwrights Trust Fund, which operates five training centers with a staff of more than 20 veteran construction instructors throughout Texas. The program includes hands-on, theoretical classroom learning, and jobsite one-on-one mentoring, to give union craftsmen training that is in-demand at jobsites throughout Texas.
Training is based on a $200 million program developed by the United Brotherhood of Carpenters International Training Fund. With this support, Texas union craftsmen obtain highly-developed skills, provide productive and safe work, and display the right attitude in their role as jobsite leaders.
