Mitch Landrieu Speaks About Infrastructure.
19 December 2022
The Central South Dec 2022 Triannual Delegate Conference featured guest speaker, Mitch Landrieu, who is the former New Orleans Mayor and currently a White House Senior Advisor, responsible for coordinating the implementation of the historic bipartisan infrastructure law. Mr. Landrieu spoke about what it was like during the New Orleans Recovery and what we can expect from the current infrastructure investment. Mitch Landrieu sat down with several UBC & Central South leaders and delegates to discuss the infrastructure bill and answer questions.
Mr. Landrieu’s background in public service is impressive. He was the 61st Mayor of New Orleans (2010-2018). The city was still recovering from Hurricane Katrina and in the midst of the BP Oil Spill when he took office. Under his leadership, New Orleans is widely recognized as one of the nation’s great comeback stories.
Landrieu was named “Public Official of the Year” by Governing in 2015, then voted “America’s Top Turnaround Mayor” in 2016 by a Politico survey of mayors. In addition, his decision to remove four confederate monuments earned him the prestigious John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award.
In addition, he founded the E Pluribus Unum Fund, which works to build a more just, inclusive, and equitable South through advancing social change & racial equity.
Prior to serving as Mayor, Landrieu served two terms as lieutenant governor and 16 years in the state legislature. He also served as President of the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
