The CHIPS & Science Act is creating hundreds of Union jobs in Texas.

Texas Instruments and Samsung are investing a combined $55 billion in semiconductor projects in Texas, with applications for funding through the CHIPS & Science Act just now being accepted. The Act is helping to create good-paying union jobs by requiring Davis-Bacon prevailing wage rates for facilities built with CHIPS funding.

The Kerr Dam Rehabilitation project has been a crucial development in the infrastructure of Sallisaw, Oklahoma. Funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, this project aims to repair tainter gates 11-15 around the river and is estimated to cost $25 million. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is managing the project, which is also being spotlighted on White House state fact sheets for the State of Oklahoma.

A dedicated carpenter and organizer during his 44 years with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America.

His passing on January 15, 2023, at the age of 63, is a great loss.

Family fun night was held on December 13, 2022. It was a wonderful finish to a great year. Every year during our December meeting, we name one hard working apprentice, The Clark McDonald Apprentice of the Year. The deserving apprentice is awarded a check for all their efforts.

The Central South Dec 2022 Tri-Annual Delegate Conference featured guest speakers, Mitch Landrieu, and member-elect to the US Congress Greg Casar.

On December 1, 2022, the Austin City Council unanimously passed a Wage Theft Prevention Ordinance protecting workers compensation they are owed by law. Wage theft occurs when a worker is not paid what they are owed under the law or agreement made with their employer.

National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) is a nationwide celebration to showcase the opportunities that Registered Apprenticeships offer for Americans to develop workplace experience and skills that employers value.

The Louisiana Workforce Commission's Registered Apprenticeship Conference in Baton Rouge, LA was attended by apprenticeship partners and featured speakers such as Governor John Bel Edwards, the LWC Secretary Ava Cates & Apprenticeship Director Stephen Peychaud, the Department of Labor Apprenticeship Director Maria Brady, and our very own Shanta Prude. Being one of three success stories asked to present, Ms. Prude spoke about her experience as a member of the Central South Carpenters Regional Council.

EST Jason Engels spoke at a recent DOL Wage & Hour Division seminar as a worker advocate on how wage theft can affect project productivity.

On June 24th & 25th, 75 sisters from every state in the council came together for the first ever Central South Sisters in the Brotherhood Conference at the Roosevelt in New Orleans, Louisiana. With the mantra of Stronger Together, the goal was to collaborate, learn, grow, and plan for success.

District director, Troy Mouton sent a warning letter to the Advocate cautioning contractors to avoid this practice. He goes on to explain

how the process works and how it is unfair. 

Central South Carpenters has evidence of workers on the Potter County Courthouse project being paid far less than the contracted & legal wage.
